How long does an Energy Performance Certificate Last?
For properties being sold the certificate is valid for 12 months.
For properties being rented the certificate is valid for 10 years.
What happens if my home gets a low rating?
This simply indicates your home could be more energy efficient. During the inspection a number of recommendations to improve the energy efficiency will be identified. Implementation of these could not only increase your rating and reduce carbon emissions but also save you money on your energy bills. It is up to you whether you implement the recommendations or not as there is no statutory requirement to comply with the recommendations in the EPC.
What happens to Energy Performance Certificates once they're complete?
All domestic Energy Performance Certificates are lodged in a central database. They each have a unique reference number and access to the database is restricted, so only those who have the unique reference number can access the certificate for a particular property.
